DROGBA HAILS NIGERIA
The captain of the Ivory Coast football team, Didier Drogba, has hailed the Nigerian team and has said that the super eagles were the deserving winners in the quarter final of the Africa Cup of nations.
Ivory Coast was defeated by Nigeria in the quarterfinal match of the Africa Cup of nations yesterday by a narrow margin of 2-1. The match was played at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
The Elephants had come into this tournament as the favourites and many experts were excepting them to go all the way to win the tournament. But, they were stunned by a well balanced Nigerian side.
For Nigeria, the goal scorers were Emenike and Sunday Mba. On the other hand, for Ivory Coast, the only goal was scored by Cheikh Tiote.
Talking to the reporters in the post match press conference, Drogba said, “Their performance was outstanding today. They are a very good team and they executed their plans perfectly on the field today. They deserved to be the winners.”
“I think Nigeria is playing the best football in this competition. I am backing them to win this tournament. They have got better and better with each match. If they keep playing like this, it will be difficult to stop them.”
When asked what went wrong for Ivory Coast today, Drogba said, “We didn’t perform that poorly today. It happens in football. Sometimes, you put up a good show, but, you end up losing the game. And, in other matches, you don’t play that well, but, you find yourself on the winning side. We tried hard and played some good football, but, in spite of that we lost.”
Ivory Coast was the favourite to win the Africa Cup of nations last year as well, but, the team had lost the final match against Zambia.
