Didier Drogba has mocked Ex-Chelsea teammate Willian after the Brazilian international cancelled his Arsenal contract to return to his native Corinthians earlier this week.
Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba aimed a jibe at Willian in a joking manner as he told the winger to return to Chelsea. Drogba told Willian to go back home (Stamford Bridge) in his reply to the farewell message posted by the Brazilian winger on Twitter. Didier Drogba and Willian were teammates at Chelsea briefly for one season. Willian and Drogba won the Premier League title together under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.
The latest development shows that Arsenal fans can’t shake off Didier Drogba even when the Ivorian football icon has retired. His reply also sent a big message to the Gunners fans on the state of their team. Drogba scored 13 times in all competitions against Arsenal before he retired. The Ivorian was always a thorn in the flesh of the Arsenal fans especially when he was a Chelsea player.
Willian left Chelsea to sign for London rivals Arsenal on a free transfer last summer but the move didn’t work out well for him despite a promising start. The Gunners gave him a three-year deal when he joined last year and the player was able to show his good side by cancelling the remaining two years to take a big pay cut and sign for Corinthians in his native Brazil. He was earning over £200,000 on a weekly basis at the Emirates Stadium.
Willian scored just once for Arsenal in his solitary season at the club. His goal came towards the end of the season as Arsenal beat West Brom 3-1 at home. The result condemned the Baggies to relegation from the English top flight after just one season. Willian had started his Arsenal career with three assists in the 3-0 away win over Fulham before things went downhill for him.
