DROGBA PRAISES UNITED DUO FOR OLYMPICS RUN

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has hailed Manchester United duo Amad Diallo and Eric Bailly following their participation in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The two United stars were called up to the Ivory Coast men’s football squad and they played their part in helping the French country reach the quarter-final of the competition but were unfortunately knocked out by Spain after extra-time as they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw after 90 minutes. Bailly scored the opening goal of the game but the Spaniards found the back of the net and forced a 2-2 draw which took the game to extra time where they played for another 30 minutes.

However, it looked like the Ivorians let their guards down too easily as they started conceding goals too easily. They conceded three goals in extra time and the match ended in a huge 5-2 defeat, meaning that they were knocked out of the competition, allowing Spain to progress to the next stage of the men’s football tournament.

But Drogba believes that even though the players were not able to hang on and secure qualification to the next round, they did their best and they need to be patted on the back. The former Blues star singled out Diallo and Bailly specifically for major praise as he insisted that the two stars showed their big-club qualities and their leadership acumen on the pitch but they were only unlucky that they were not the team progressing to the next round.

The two stars will now return to England and rejoin the Manchester United squad to partake in preparations ahead of Manchester United’s opening Premier League game of the season which will see them take on Leeds United as they look forward to having a bright start to the new campaign.
