DROGBA’S RECORD UNDER THREAT FROM SALAH
Ivorian football icon Didier Drogba is set to lose one of his Premier League records to Egyptian attacking talent Mohamed Salah after the ex-Fiorentina and Chelsea player continued his good form in front of goal during the Manchester City game in the league last weekend.
Liverpool took the lead just before the hour mark through Senegalese international Sadio Mane off the assist from Salah. Egyptian attacker Salah then regained the lead for Liverpool with a solo goal on 76 minutes after English player Phil Foden had pulled City level. Salah scored a contender for the best goal this season to move within one goal of the African Premier League record currently held by Didier Drogba.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba scored 104 goals over two spells at Stamford Bridge and Salah is one goal away from matching that record. His aforementioned goal against the Citizens took his Premier League tally to 103 goals though it was not enough to beat Manchester City who scored a second equaliser via a deflected strike from Kevin De Bruyne.
It’s a matter of time before Salah breaks the record. He could break the record when league football returns at the end of next week. The Egyptian will equal the record with a goal when Liverpool take on hosts and newcomers Watford. He will own the record completely with a brace against the Hornets.
