HAMMERS LEADING RACE FOR AFRICAN STAR

West Ham United are reportedly leading the race to sign 21-year-old Senegalese striker BambaDieng who plays his club football for French Ligue 1 giants. The Hammers’ interest in the African star was revealed by the Daily Mirror. It was disclosed that West Ham United will face a lot of competition in their quest to sign Dieng who has drawn comparison with Premier League legend Didier Drogba.

Apart from the Hammers, the other teams keen on signing the striker are from the Premier League. The other Premier League teams eyeing a move for the Marseille striker are Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Young Marseille striker Dieng could make the step up to the Premier League just like Didier Drogba did many years ago. In 2004, Didier Drogba left Marseille to join Chelsea in a £24m deal and he went on to become a legend at the club. Dieng can do same by leaving French football for the Premier League in this winter transfer window.

Apart from drawing similarities with Drogba, he has also been compared to a young Sadio Mane who’s a Premier League player. Dieng has not been very prolific this season with four goals in 19 Ligue 1 and Europa League games but that has not stopped the English clubs from following his development in the French top flight.

West Ham United boss David Moyes is determined to strengthen his central striker role and he has identified Dieng as the man for the job. Moyes wants cover for Michail Antonio in the central striker position. He has used Jarrod Bowen or AndriyYarmolenko whenever Antonio is rested or unavailable.

Senegalese football legend El-HadjiDiouf called Dieng a great striker last month as he compared him to Didier Drogba. Dieng is currently with Senegal at the ongoing AFCON tournament in Senegal.
