Footballers Reminisce About Drogba

Didier Drogba remains an inspiration for many footballers, especially for Chelsea club recruits. Many still reminisce about how effectively he played in the Cup finals. Indeed, he won as many as 12 trophies during his two stints at this club. If we look at his overall record, he scored 177 goals for this club itself. Also, impressive was his performance when it was needed the most. That is, he scored nine goals in the ten final matches the club was in.

Many still look back at his record-breaking performance while at Chelsea. For instance, in the league cup final that happened in 2005, Drogba was a recruit at that time. Didier Drogba Resigns from AFI

Didier Drogba has been in the news since he took up the vice president role in AFI. Currently, he has announced his resignation from this post, accusing the body of not taking adequate action on certain issues. He has sent an open letter to concerned media authorities. In that, he has stated that inaction on the part of the Footballers Association or AFI was the reason for his resignation. He found that the association was not responding to the expectations and needs of the players. The association should be defending the interests and rights of the owners.

Drogba has been the former skipper for the national team. When he retired many expected him to head the football association of this West African country. However, his candidacy was snubbed since AFI alleged that he was not sufficiently involved in the representative organization of the players. Read more »

HAMMERS LEADING RACE FOR AFRICAN STAR

West Ham United are reportedly leading the race to sign 21-year-old Senegalese striker BambaDieng who plays his club football for French Ligue 1 giants. The Hammers’ interest in the African star was revealed by the Daily Mirror. It was disclosed that West Ham United will face a lot of competition in their quest to sign Dieng who has drawn comparison with Premier League legend Didier Drogba.

Apart from the Hammers, the other teams keen on signing the striker are from the Premier League. The other Premier League teams eyeing a move for the Marseille striker are Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

John Terry and Didier Drogba have both been mentioned as the best players  during Frank Lampard’s professional football career in the colours of club and country.

In an interview with Manchester United legend Gary Neville on Sky Sports, Lampard was asked to name the best player he played alongsidefor club or country and he was unable to separate Didier Drogba and John Terry. The Chelsea legend told Neville that he would rather stick with the two names than pick one. According to him,he has to share the accolade between Didier Drogba and John Terry. Lampard said that Ivorian football legend Drogba was the man for the big occasion while they were together at Chelsea and that Terry was the leader and that he drove the dressing room.

DROGBA MOCKS WILLIAN OVER ARSENAL EXIT

Didier Drogba has mocked Ex-Chelsea teammate Willian after the Brazilian international cancelled his Arsenal contract to return to his native Corinthians earlier this week.

Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba aimed a jibe at Willian in a joking manner as he told the winger to return to Chelsea. Drogba told Willian to go back home (Stamford Bridge) in his reply to the farewell message posted by the Brazilian winger on Twitter. Didier Drogba and Willian were teammates at Chelsea briefly for one season. Willian and Drogba won the Premier League title together under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. Read more »

DROGBA PRAISES UNITED DUO FOR OLYMPICS RUN

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has hailed Manchester United duo Amad Diallo and Eric Bailly following their participation in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The two United stars were called up to the Ivory Coast men’s football squad and they played their part in helping the French country reach the quarter-final of the competition but were unfortunately knocked out by Spain after extra-time as they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw after 90 minutes. Bailly scored the opening goal of the game but the Spaniards found the back of the net and forced a 2-2 draw which took the game to extra time where they played for another 30 minutes.

However, it looked like the Ivorians let their guards down too easily as they started conceding goals too easily. They conceded three goals in extra time and the match ended in a huge 5-2 defeat, meaning that they were knocked out of the competition, allowing Spain to progress to the next stage of the men’s football tournament.
