CHELSEA: DROGBA DELIGHTED WITH AUBA ARRIVAL
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is delighted with the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Spanish La Liga side Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Didier Drogba expressed his delight on his official Twitter account shortly after Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Gabonese striker Aubameyang at the start of this month.
Aubameyang, 33, is one of eight new players at Stamford Bridge this summer with new club owner Todd Boehly keen to make his mark on Chelsea. The American has taken over from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The former Chelsea owner was forced to sell the West London outfit following the sanctions handed out to him by the United Kingdom (UK) government and the European Union (EU). Boehly and Chelsea spent over £200m on new players during this summer’s transfer window.
Apart from Aubameyang, the other new players at Chelsea this season include Spanish star Marc Cucurella, Senegalese international defender Kalidou Koulibaly, young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, England international Raheem Sterling and Swiss midfielder Dennis Zakaria who joined the Blues on loan from Italian Serie A side Juventus on the same transfer deadline day as Aubameyang.
The quest to reunite with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea influenced Aubameyang to move to the club from Catalan giants Barcelona, but he was reunited with the German tactician was just a week before his dismissal. Tuchel paid the price with his job at Chelsea after the disappointing defeat to Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb. Croatian attacker Miroslav Orsic scored the only goal of the game in the first half to give Zagreb a 1-0 win over the Blues. Recently retired Gabonese international Aubameyang played the entire duration of the Dinamo Zagreb game.
