DROGBA FAILS INFEDERATION PRESIDENT BID

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has lost his bid to become the Ivory Coast Football Federation president after he came third out of the three candidates that contested for the post during the elections at the end of last month. He had earlier been talked up by former Chelsea and Ivory Coast national team colleague Salomon Kalou who said that Didier Drogba has what it takes to be the new leader as far as the Ivory Coast Football Federation is concerned. However, Drogba didn’t survive the first round of the elective congress held on Saturday, April 23, 2022.


Didier Drogba had just 21 votes at the end of the three-way race that also included SoryDiabate and YacineIdrissDiallo.Diabate had 50 votes after the first round of the elective congress, while Diallo had 59 votes after the first round of the elective congress. Read more »

DROGBA INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame after the announcement was made earlier this week. The Ivorian football legend was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside five others namely Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes and Ian Wright. The new six Premier League Hall of Fame inductees have taken the number of inductees to 19.


Didier Drogba signed for Chelsea from French club Marseille in a £24m deal in the summer of 2004. After a slow start in West London, the Ivorian became a key player for Chelsea and he went on to attain legendary status at the club. He spent two separate spells at Chelsea. Drogba was at the club for a period of eight years from 2004 to 2012 for his first spell before the returned for the 2014/15 season for his second spell at the club. LUKAKU: MALOUDA ASKS FOR PATIENCE

Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has asked for patience from the Chelsea fans over Belgian international Romelu Lukaku who has not had the best of starts to his second spell at Stamford Bridge. Lukaku returned to Chelsea last summer for his second spell at the club after the West London giants paid around £97m to secure his transfer from Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan. The Belgian striker was the main man as Inter Milan won the Serie A title last season under the guidance of Antonio Conte, but he has not been able to show the same form at Chelsea this season.

Frenchman talked to the Chelsea fans about Romelu Lukaku as he made a comparison between him and Didier Drogba. He called for patience from the Chelsea fans during an interview with Genting Casino. Lukaku has been in the news for the wrong reasons on several occasions this season. He made the headlines for the wrong reasons after granting an interview to Sky Italia to reveal his frustration at his lack of game time at Chelsea and that he has hopes of returning to Inter Milan much later. JOURNALIST CONFIRMS MAGPIES INTEREST IN OSINHEM

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was a subject of interest from some Premier League teams as reported in the media. The two names mentioned in line with the new Didier Drogba during the final days of the recently concluded January transfer window were Arsenal and Newcastle United. The Napoli attacker has always been compared with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Premier League teams including the Magpies were keen to sign him last month, but they were not successful. The interest of Newcastle United in the Super Eagles of Nigeria star was confirmed by Italian journalist Fabio Santini in a chat with 7 Gold shortly after the transfer window ended earlier this week.

According to the quotes from the journalist as revealed by Calcio Napoli 1926, Osimhen was wanted by the Magpies. In addition to confirming the interest of Newcastle United in the player, Santini said that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wanted nothing less than €100m (£83m) for the former VFL Wolfsburg and Lille attacking talent who has similarities with Ivorian football icon Didier Drogba.

HAMMERS LEADING RACE FOR AFRICAN STAR

West Ham United are reportedly leading the race to sign 21-year-old Senegalese striker BambaDieng who plays his club football for French Ligue 1 giants. The Hammers’ interest in the African star was revealed by the Daily Mirror. It was disclosed that West Ham United will face a lot of competition in their quest to sign Dieng who has drawn comparison with Premier League legend Didier Drogba.

In an interview with Manchester United legend Gary Neville on Sky Sports, Lampard was asked to name the best player he played alongsidefor club or country and he was unable to separate Didier Drogba and John Terry. The Chelsea legend told Neville that he would rather stick with the two names than pick one. According to him,he has to share the accolade between Didier Drogba and John Terry. Lampard said that Ivorian football legend Drogba was the man for the big occasion while they were together at Chelsea and that Terry was the leader and that he drove the dressing room.
