Footballers Reminisce About Drogba

Didier Drogba remains an inspiration for many footballers, especially for Chelsea club recruits. Many still reminisce about how effectively he played in the Cup finals. Indeed, he won as many as 12 trophies during his two stints at this club. If we look at his overall record, he scored 177 goals for this club itself. Also, impressive was his performance when it was needed the most. That is, he scored nine goals in the ten final matches the club was in.

Many still look back at his record-breaking performance while at Chelsea. For instance, in the league cup final that happened in 2005, Drogba was a recruit at that time. He had just joined Chelsea in 2004. He was part of the lineup for the final. He also took whichever opportunity he got to play in the League Cup decider match opposite Liverpool.

If we look at the finals of 2007, here too Drogba was part of the final match. They were facing their favorite opposing team Arsenal. Drogba showed great skills to bring Chelsea to level with the Gunners. In the 84th minute of the game, the Ivorians scored a brilliant head goal. Indeed, his record opposite Arsenal has always been brilliant. Out of 15 appearances he had made opposite this team he had scored 13 goals in his playing career.

In an interview in 2017, he also admitted the same. He quoted that, he had asked his son who was the best footballer per him, in England. His son had said that it was him. He told Thierry Henry that it was probably the reason he scored every time they played opposite Arsenal. After retirement, he joined Footballers Association in his country. However, he stepped down from this position in 2021. It was because he felt that the association was inadequate in defending the interests of the players.
